In the era of economic development by liberalization and globalization, Women entrepreneurship is gaining importance in India. Women are very strong. They just need an opportunity to flourish. In rural areas, they were mainly forced to remain confined within four walls of the house. But with time, they are getting exposure. They are coming out and trying to prove that they are no less.
Women entrepreneurship has tremendous potential in the empowering of women and transforming of society. A woman as an entrepreneur, is economically more powerful than a mere worker. Women empowerment and development goes hand in hand, for the reason that women constitute about half of population in India. The government encourages micro enterprises, especially in low-income areas. It helps the business and economy to grow. And such enterprises also show promise of sustainable development. They help to fill a necessary niche in developing economies.
The improvement and subsequent development of small-scale industries and micro enterprises in the country have led to a significant increase in the income of women. Rural women frequently have primary responsibility for agricultural production, in addition to domestic responsibilities and childcare. Now they are also exploring with other micro-enterprises.
In developing country like India where economic status of women is very pathetic especially in rural areas and opportunities of earning are very less, the Self Help Groups (SHGs) have paved the way for economic independence of rural women. The women have definitely proved how stronger they are. With their empowerment, they have created a place for themselves in the society. And women have become a stronger pillar of their families by contributing both emotionally and financially.
