Kaberi SHG was formed in the early 2018 under the project SHPI by Mahasakti Foundation in association with NABARD. Before the formation of the Self Help Group, majority of the women were engaged in household activities and some worked as daily labours. They didn’t have any knowledge about SHG, its formation, functions and advantages. The staffs of Mahashakti Foundation went to the village, helped the women form groups and also facilitated them in opening of their bank account in UCO Bank.
The members of Kaberi SHG started with saving of INR 100 per month. The project staffs of MSF also helped these women to apply for loan from the Bank to start their own business. They received a loan amount of ₹1,50,000 from Union Bank for groundnut cultivation. They then started cultivating in 2 acres of land which they took in lease. After harvesting, the group incurred a profit of ₹32,500 after repaying ₹40,000 to the bank. The group also received an assistance of ₹15000 from ICDS for conducting regular meetings, proper record keeping & savings. The formation of the SHG helped the members immensely as it encouraged them in regular savings and also gave a platform to its members to discuss the problems faced by them and try to find out a solution to it.
