The Indian government adopted the approach of SHGs to uplift the rural poor women. Therefore, Mahashakti Foundation joined hands with Vedanta and took the responsibility of improving the livelihoods of the downtrodden and economically backward women of Lanjigarh block of Kalahandi district. Maa Hiranila SHG was formed on 25 June 2017.
Mahashakti Foundation in partnership with Vedanta Ltd., Lanjigarh started Sakhi Project in March 2015 for the SHG women of 53 villages in the periphery of Vedanta. The staffs of Project Sakhi made the women understand the necessity of earning and savings. Therefore, they started skill-building programmes for these SHG women so that they can use the knowledge and skill in some income generating activities. Then the women of Maa Hiranila SHG started goat rearing by taking loan from Indian Overseas Bank and other finance companies. They earned a good amount of profit and saved ₹1,30,000 from it. Their internal loan transaction is also excellent as on date. About ₹50,000 internal loan is going on with 2% of interest. The success of this IGA boosted their confidence and they thought to start a new seasonal business of Kandula Dal which is a great source of protein. They invested ₹10,000 each from their savings for Kandula Dal bsusiness which also clicked well and completely changed their life for better.
Women are mostly neglected in the society. However, if a small opportunity is provided to them, then they strive hard to make the most out of it. Maa Hiranila SHG set a perfect example in their society by proper utilization of the loan amount.
